#6 My Journey

Date: 08 July 2011

Flow is a natural law of life. In fact it is these flows that give strength and joy to life and ultimately added propose to it. Me too is no exception and moving with this flow. I never thought of coming to this part of the world (Melbourne). Yes I am here with the mix emotions. I am at the top of my joy been in this rich and diversified culture but at the same time I am missing my family a lot.

I landed here on 30th of June 2011, still struggling a bit in setting down. Looking for apartment and also other amenities. Being honest I am not use to of this environment. We know how it is in our native. Market and shops are close by and those “sabji wala” and milk man that comes in our houses to provide us vegetables and milk. Here we have to reach for shopping centers to do the same.

But looking around, it’s like preplanned city. So green, so spacious, roads are so wide with service lane everywhere. The best thing is we do not need to bother about “riksha wala” soddenly popped up from somewhere in front of you while driving at road. Even I rarely found motor bikes while driving to office. People respect rule while driving on road. I got car and it’s far easy to drive here as compare to that of our native streets.

View of a busy road
I am predicting that I am going to enjoy my stay over here. But right now I am struggling to find an apartment on rent nearby in clayton area. Hope will get it soon and then call my family also.

#5 A great day of my life

Today was a great day for me. I was working with end users. Users whom I have given training from last two years. And to my surprise they are still unfamiliar with the system. I saw how much resistance they have to adopt a new system. Till now they were working on the old system as well as new system simultaneously. This time when they were asked by there management to user only the new system they were came with lots of excuses. Management almost ended the implementation of the new system. It’s good that we were able to show the management the enough evidences that it’s the user resistance only not the problem with the system. So after all, the matter resolve and now they are agreed to use our system.
O my god, what the hell the debate was. Today I face the biggest resistance by the user to use new system. I have implemented systems in the company where the users were doing manual record keeping as well as in the companies using computerize system earlier. But anyways with my experience I can say whatever the case might be the end user always put there resistance for new system. To my surprise it is always more from the users who are already using any computerize system. Obviously it is difficult for those users who have never use the system earlier to adapt them self with the new system. But I always found it easier to train them as compare to train a user that is already using any other system. It is like clay I believe, if it is wet we can make any shape out of it but once it is set to any shape it is difficult to change its shape.
I can make out the difference at the time of initial interaction itself. When I tell any end user about new system, they want to seek features and functionality in there own way. If the user is coming for the first time to any system then one want to look how system actually works and try to adjust him according to it. He is like a new learner we can teach him how to use our system but on contrary if user already used some or the other system it makes the situation worse. When I interact any such kind of user he tries to find out the extension of his existing system instead of new one. Main problem comes with the functional and data flows. It is the main cause that provides them rigidity. Actually they don’t want to change there existing work flows of day to day operations. At the time of training itself they are asking that how this new system will do there particular entry that they are doing right now in such and such manner. They don’t want to see how our system will treat this entry, better or worse no matters but they want it to be in there existing way. Even thought we are giving them new and may be better system they are not willing to listen to us.

I remember a movie where a teacher told his student that, it is difficult to teach him since his cup is already full. So true it is, better or worse, I don’t know…………..

#4 Quotes on ERP Implementation Projects

Free Accpac ERP Tools

Today's Quotes:

• A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

• It takes infinite energy to implement an ERP on time; therefore, all ERP projects are both incomplete and late.

• If a ERP project becomes too large, it will collapse into a black hole. Time and money are absorbed but nothing ever comes out.

• The first 90 percent of the implementation accounts for the first 90 percent of the implementation time...The remaining 10 percent of the implementation accounts for the other 90 percent of the implementation time.

• The bearing of a child takes nine months, no matter how many women are assigned. Many ERP Implantations has this characteristic because of the sequential nature.

• An organization that treats its ERP Consultants as morons will soon have consultants that are willing and able to act like morons only.

• Theory is when you know something, but it doesn’t work. Practice is when something works, but you don’t know why. ERP Consultant combine theory and practice: Nothing works and they don’t know why.

• For every ERP functional or technical problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

• The ERP implementation isn't finished until the last user is dead.

• The goal of ERP Implementation is to build something that will last at least until we've finished implementing it.

• Just because you don't know an ERP, doesn't mean you won't be called upon to implement it.

• The most likely way for the world to be destroyed, most experts agree, is by accident. That's where we come in; we're computer professionals. We cause accidents.

• Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment.

• If both the ERP and the consultant disagree, then both are probably wrong.

• Rules of Optimization:

Rule 1: Don't do it.

Rule 2 (for experts only): Don't do it yet.

• Any fool can use a ERP System. Many do.

• If the automobile had followed the same implementation cycle as the ERP Systems, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

• There are two ways to implement error-free ERP; only the third works.

• I did say something along the lines of "Tally makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; SAP or Accpac makes it harder, but when you do, it blows your whole leg off."

• Accpac is simple. It just takes a genius to understand its simplicity.

• The perfect ERP implementation plan is possible if one first documents a list of all the unknowns.

• Basic Rule for ERP Implementation “First you listen to the users; then you ignore them”.

• There is no reason why anyone would want a ERP System in the Company.

• But what... is it good for? “Leading ERP System”

• One: ERP demonstrations always crash. And two: the probability of them crashing goes up exponentially with the number of people watching.

#3 A Big WHY?

We the people of India, all over the world, why?
May be top International Brands not from India, but majority of human resource working in those big companies are certainly form India why?
It is nothing to surprise that the top level guys in lots of MNCs having Indians on board. Lots of IIT and IIM students making there places in top positions each year all over the world. There is no limit for the talent and brain in India. Today in each field related to any discipline of knowledge Indians have shown there presence. We are nothing but one of the finest race on the planet.
But…….
Despite of all this there is some thing that disturbs me again and again. That’s the importance of VIDESI against DESI. Why being such a great country we always need to look towards west for each of our internal task. We always judge our work and contribution form external eye. There is a big “WHY” to be answered by each of us. Is those western things really matter that to us. I am not talking here about some products or person, things or events. I am worried about the mind set of today’s generation and its effect on next generation. It’s the matter of knowing who we are and what we capable of. From ice-cream to burger, bollywood to entertainment, language to culture and all those things that touching our life seem to be influenced by west. Today pizza and burgers became more sophisticated then any of our traditional food. May be our kids don’t know what “DALIYA” is but definitely need cornflakes and noodles. Mc-Donald and Pizza Hut have more brand value then Aggrawal sweets or Haldiram in our own country. Big ice-cream brand opening outlets in India with advertisement tag of Indians not allowed. Even though they can manage to survive and generate revenue from our country. Ask yourself, that apart from Mother Dairy Ice-Creams how many Indian ice-cream brands you know. Not only one industry or sector but the story is same everywhere. Today we almost forget our traditional ways of entertainments. Who is going to watch “NATAK” or Dramas, may be countable people. Bollywood is the biggest source of entertainment today. It is said to be the face of the society. But dose it doing justice to the saying. Most of the stories are taken from Hollywood movies or some novels here and there and after all claimed to be original. Who can deny that the Oscars are valued more then any Indian award in India itself. Any Hollywood star may even not know what the bollywood is or if they even know then may be two or three names of Bollywood stars but when asked by most of our Bollywood stars there favorite star is from Hollywood. May be other bigger source of daily entertainment are serials. But are they really reflecting Indian face. Most of our realty shows are nothing but the Indian remake of western shows. Big boss to Indian Idol list may go very long. I think a country that teaches the world what philosophy is, lacking good thinkers today. The area that affected the worst is our own language and culture. Today Hindi is living a life of refuge in his own county. A person speaks good English consider to be modern and sorry to say but Hindi is consider to be the rural language. With this we forget our culture too. People are surprise to know the Vedas are the religious books of Hindus. When I asked couple of my friends about our religious books they were saying it is Geta or Puranas not sure. One other field that is under large western influence is our education system. we are still following the same education system that is enforced by British people on us. Indian curriculum not includes its own history in detail rather it will teach us much about others. This is not all it is just a few. I don’t recognize even one area that is not west influenced.
My friends it’s not about using some or the other brand nor speaking any language its only concern about feeling proud on our own stuffs, do we. Use any language to communicate but on top feel proud to speak our own language. Eat whatever you want but never forget our own food. Be the part of any culture and civilization but don’t feel ashamed be from your own origin.
May be this hurts anybodies feelings. But please answer this “WHY” to yourself before it too late.

#2 Trying to do new things and helping others

Its now one year away from my home town. Here in office lots of new things happening. From my busy schedule it’s difficult to take some time and concentrate on some other personal issues. I am feeling good for some things that I have did apart from my daily commitments. It’s good that I have developed some tools and modules for the Sage Accpac ERP. I am planning to provide some of those tools free for the Sage Accpac client to plug and play. It’s also on the list to launch the site that provides all those tool online. It will sure help to bust up the performance of the ERP and help Sage Accpac customers. Hope it does well.

#1 15 Jan 2009, My first post to the Blog

Dear All, This is my first day to blog. I don't know how to use this new type of media. These days everybody is using blogs like BigB has his own blog where he post his ideas every day. Every body out here has lots of things that we want to share with others, I too have lots of thoughts in me that I wanted to share with the rest of the world. I don't know that this is the right way to start with or not.

Daily when I reach my home from office I find my room witnessing my loneliness. Four walls silently looking at me. My soul continuously asking me, whether this is what I want to be? I am always wondering about the purpose of my life. I am struggling since I was a kid. Today when I have a good job I am thinking that this is where I have reach! Thousand miles away from my family and friends, for what? Only for money!!!!!!
I don’t know. But I have to be here for my future and career. In the weekends the situation is worse.
On the contradictory I am getting more time for my own. Lots of curiosity and ideas that fill up my mind and empower themself to be put on the paper. Since, The stage of world is not that silence now. Every thing in the world is moving toward new climax. We all witnessed the dramatic downfall of every economy. World politics has its own effect on the changing face of the world. Terror has crossed its traditional boundaries. Every single unit of each nation is fighting with his own bunch of problems. Every body is searching for the happiness and peace.
My crop of Ideas is growing on the vast platform with every varity. Even it is not ready to harvest but I want to share it with the world since I know that “Crop of Ideas would never be ready to harvest”.

I will try to post my thoughts daily. But who knows the future.

God bless everybody.
